How long does benchtop installation actually take?

Most straightforward jobs are a single-day, single-visit installation. Here's what happens at each stage, and what can extend the timeline.

The short answer

A single-section or two-section benchtop installation with standard cut-outs and minor scribing is typically completed in one day, on site. Multi-section jobs with several joins, complex scribing, stone-adjacent work or difficult access can run into a second day.

Stage by stage

1. Calculate and send your job

Use the calculator to build a rough estimate, then send us dimensions, photos and product details. This usually takes you a few minutes and doesn't commit you to anything.

2. We review the scope (typically 1–2 business days)

We confirm product suitability, access, fabrication requirements and exclusions, and issue a final reviewed price before booking.

3. Booking to install day

Lead time to an install slot varies with season and current bookings — we'll give you a realistic window when we confirm the quote, and a firmer date once it's booked.

4. On the day: removal (if applicable)

If you're replacing an existing top, removal generally takes 30–90 minutes depending on how it was originally fixed and whether cabinets need checking underneath.

5. On the day: measure, cut, join, fit

Final on-site measurement, cutting to length, joining sections, cutting sink/cooktop openings, scribing to walls and fixing the benchtop — this is the bulk of the visit, typically 3–6 hours for a standard two-section kitchen job.

6. On the day: sealing and finishing

Exposed cut edges and substrate are sealed as required by the product, and visible ends are finished.

What extends the timeline: out-of-level cabinets or walls that are out of square, more than one or two joins, complex scribing against multiple walls, hidden damage found once the old top is removed, and difficult access (stairs, tight sites, apartments with lift booking windows).

Planning around other trades

If you're combining benchtop work with new doors, handles, splashback or sink/tap changes, sequencing matters — see our kitchen refresh page for how to plan a staged renovation so the benchtop isn't installed too early or too late.

Common questions

Timing, answered.

Can the whole job be done in one visit?

Most standard jobs, yes. Multi-section jobs with several joins or complex scribing sometimes need a second visit — we'll flag this at the quote stage, not on the day.

How far in advance should I book?

Lead times vary by season — ask when you get your reviewed quote. Booking earlier gives more flexibility on your preferred date.

Do I need to be home during installation?

Someone with access to the property is needed at the start and end of the job at minimum; we'll confirm specifics when we schedule your install.
