More than simply placing a benchtop on cabinets.
A good benchtop installation starts with checking the cabinets, walls and actual product before the first cut is made. Existing kitchens are rarely perfectly square or level, which is why installation-only jobs can require a surprising amount of site work.
Typical installation scope
- Check cabinet levels, wall condition and benchtop dimensions.
- Cut worktops to final length and depth where the product permits it.
- Scribe to walls where required.
- Prepare and assemble benchtop joins using suitable connectors and adhesives.
- Cut standard drop-in sink and cooktop openings.
- Seal exposed substrate and cut surfaces where required by the product.
- Fix the benchtop to cabinetry and complete standard finishing.

Pre-cut versus site-fabricated benchtops
A factory-prepared benchtop that arrives at the correct size with completed edges and cut-outs is a simpler installation. Fixed-size laminate, timber and IKEA-style worktops often need to be fabricated on site, so joins, scribing and cut-outs are priced separately.
| Typical work | Indicative pricing |
|---|---|
| Minimum benchtop installation | from $475 |
| Site-cut installation base* | from $335 |
Indicative only. The $475 minimum job charge applies. For the full component-by-component rate card, including joins, cut-outs, scribing, removal and disposal, see our installation cost guide.
What we need to quote the job
Wide photos of the kitchen, approximate benchtop lengths and depths, the benchtop product or link, the number of joins, details of the sink and cooktop, and your Melbourne suburb are usually enough for us to review the initial scope.
How long does an installation-only job take?
Most single-visit installations are completed in a day. Multi-section jobs with several joins, wall scribing or awkward access can run longer — see our step-by-step installation process for what to expect from booking to finish.
